We love to travel, but have discovered that travelling with children has "complicated" things. Here we share ideas for travelling as a family to fun places in the US and we pretend to "travel" to places around the world in order to continue experiencing new cultures. Please COMMENT about favorite your experiences while visiting these places. Bon voyage!

Columbus in Grenada
What do you remember from school about Christopher Columbus? I remembered that he discovered America and that Amerigo Vespucci somehow did too, but it was named after Amerigo even though he was not the first to discover it. Did you know that the reason the Americas were not name after Columbus was because he fell out of favor with Spain?!!! Columbus made four voyages to the Americas. In the first, in 1492, he discovered the island of Hispaniola and, thinking he had found the East Indies which he was searching for, when he found natives, he called them "Indians." In his second voyage, begun in 1493, it is believed that he discovered some of the northern islands. His third voyage was begun in 1498 and he visited more of the islands, including GRENADA, and also visited the mainland and what is Venezuela today. When he returned to Hispaniola, Columbus was imprisoned for a time. In his fourth and final voyage in 1502, he tried to find a route through Central America in order to sail to Asia. When he reached the West Indies, he saw that a hurricane was to hit and sought shelter in Santo Domingo, but was denied. He and his fleet found shelter in a lagoon on the south of the island and survived the hurricane. The governor of Santo Domingo and his fleet refused to believe his prediction of the hurricane and 29 of the 30 ships were lost in the storm.
